Steve Albini Taught a Cooking Class

As we’ve reported before, Shellac front man and producer extraordinaire Steve Albini is a cooking aficionado. Yesterday, he hosted a cooking workshop at Pop Montreal.

Stereogum‘s Greg Bouchard was in attendance, and experienced Albini’s talents as head chef. “This is my first time cooking in front of anyone so I hope it goes well,” Albini said at the beginning, according to Stereogum. He also revealed a few things about his approach to fine dining: He cooks by experimenting, hates being called a foodie, and, sadly, has no plans to release a cookbook. He also used a steak rub designed by Silkworm bassist Tim Midyett.

He is also not a fan of wines with silly names. “One thing I won’t do is buy a wine with a clever title. You know, like, Rusty Nail or Smelly Ass or whatever,” he said. “Wines that are lame and gimmicky like that, where you know it’s someone who came into money and decided to make wine. I don’t buy them because I want them to fail. I mean, I know they will fail eventually, but I don’t want to be a part of it.” He then said that Dave Matthews’ wine is “too jammy”… get it?

According to Bouchard, the meal was delicious. As he writes, “His wife is a lucky woman, and so is anyone else who gets the opportunity to try his food.”

The Food Network should give this Albini guy a call.

Here’s the title track from the newly released Shellac album Dude Incredible:
