Stromae Surprises, Confuses New York Pedestrians With "Papaoutai" Performances in New Video

Belgian artist Stromae is a huge star in Europe who has been remixed by Kanye West (and performed with him at Coachella) and appeared on a track on the last Hunger Games soundtrack with Lorde, Haim, Pusha T, and Q-Tip. Madonna is also a fan.

Stromae first gained popularity through his homemade “Lessons” videos on YouTube. This fall, Stromae is touring North America, including a Madison Square Garden headline set with Janelle Monáe opening. (Find the dates below.) To promote the tour, he’s releasing a series of “Lessons” videos filmed in cities around the U.S.

The first one, which can be watched below via Pitchfork.tv, finds Stromae teaching you how to play his hit “Papaoutai” in various locations around New York City. He performs in Times Square, on a subway train, and under the Brooklyn Bridge, much to the confusion of everyone around him.
