The Decemberists, Olivia Chaney Announce Offa Rex Album, Share Video for New Song: Watch

The Decemberists and English singer-songwriter Olivia Chaney are teaming up for a new project called Offa Rex. The musicians have announced a new album called The Queen of Hearts, which is out July 7 on Nonesuch. Find the cover art and tracklisting below. Offa Rex have also shared a new studio performance video for the title track of the album; check it out below. Chaney has previously opened for the Decemberists on tour, which eventually led to the conception of Offa Rex. In a press release, the Decemberists’ Colin Meloy explained his thought process in collaborating with the English musician:

There’s this weird relationship between British and American music, this interesting trade and theft that goes back and forth. My hope was that if we — the neophytes, the dilettantes, the pretenders — brought Olivia to Portland to work with Tucker, perhaps these traditional British songs would be infused with something different.

Offa Rex are set to tour this summer; view the dates here. The Decemberists’ last releases were 2015’s What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World LP and its companion Florasongs EP. Chaney shared her debut studio album The Longest River in 2015.
