“The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore” Canceled

The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore” has been canceled, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The program, which premiered on Comedy Central in January 2015, will air its final episode on Thursday, August 18. In a statement to THR, Wilmore said, “I’m really grateful to Comedy Central, Jon Stewart, and our fans to have had this opportunity.” He continued, “But I’m also saddened and surprised we won’t be covering this crazy election or ‘The Unblackening’ as we’ve coined it. And keeping it 100, I guess I hadn’t counted on ‘The Unblackening’ happening to my time slot as well.”

During its run, Wilmore brought many artists onto “The Nightly Show” for political discussions and musical performances. Vince StaplesKiller Mike, Pusha TVic Mensa, Peaches, and Joey Bada$$, were among the many guests to speak with Wilmore about women’s rights, racism, politics, and other important subjects. For a time, 2 Chainz had his own recurring segment on Wilmore’s show called “2 Chainz Explainz.” Cam’ron appeared multiple times on “The Nightly Show,” as well. Among Wilmore’s guests who performed were YG and Nipsey Hussle (doing “Fuck Donald Trump”) and Neil deGrasse Tyson, who dissed B.o.B.

In May, Larry Wilmore spoke at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where he joked about Beyoncé, Killer Mike, Prince, and more.
