The Roots Share Two New Songs: Listen

The Roots have released two new songs that “you can taste,” in collaboration with beer label Stella Artois for their “Host One to Remember” campaign. Listeners can experience two different versions of their new song “Bittersweet”: one high-pitched version and another low-pitched version, meant to enhance different aspects of the brand’s beer, depending on the song you choose. The concept is based on “crossmodal correspondences” research from Professor Charles Spence of the University of Oxford. The Roots and Stella Artois are also planning a “Bittersweet” music video, which will further test the cross-sensory concept. Listen to both “Bittersweet” versions, and see Questlove’s statement on the project, below.

The Roots will perform “Bittersweet” at a “a multi-sensorial dinner theater experience” called “Le Savoir.” It takes place at New York City’s Skylight Clarkson Square from August 17 to August 22. Tickets are available here.

Questlove:

This project fuses two of our passions: music and food. As someone who loves to experiment in the studio and in the kitchen, this crazy unique collaboration inspired by Stella Artois was the perfect challenge. You really have to try it to believe it; it will change your perceptions of food, science and entertainment.
