Tim Kaine Shouts Out Lucy Dacus, David Bowie, Alabama Shakes

Earlier this summer, it was revealed that Tim Kaine–Hillary Clinton’s running mate–is a Replacements fan. He said that their 1984 record Let It Be is one of his favorite albums. For good measure, he also said he loves Bob Dylan’s “Buckets of Rain.” Now, in a new Sunday Opinion column for The New York Times, Kaine’s shouted out a few more of his favorites: David Bowie, Alabama Shakes, Lucy Dacus, the Carter Family, and Panamanian salsa artist Rubén Blades. Kaine said that he has played harmonica since he was a child, so he’ll hear the artists’ songs and try playing them. Elsewhere in the interview, Kaine said that he’s finished a book by Dave Eggers, is reading one by Paul Moses, and is a big fan of AMC’s “Turn” (as is his wife, Anne). Check out the interview here.

Both Bowie and Dacus released new records this year. Bowie put out Blackstar in January, shortly before his death, and Dacus’ new album No Burden arrived in February. Alabama Shakes’ most recent LP, Sound & Color, came out in 2015.
