Bay Area promoters, Noise Pop, and Another Planet Entertainment have organized a benefit concert supporting the Oakland Fire Relief Fund featuring mostly Bay Area artists. It will be held December 14 at Oakland’s Fox Theater. There will be performances and stories from musicians and journalists active on Oakland’s DIY music scene. tUnE-yArDs, Dan Deacon, Tycho, Primus, Hieroglyphics, and Jay Som, are among the performers. The evening is hosted by Josette Melchor of the Gray Area Foundation For The Arts, which started the fund shortly after the fire and has collected over $500,000. All of the proceeds from the event’s ticket sales will go toward the fund. Find more info here.

A few days ago, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf announced a $1.7 million investment into “safe and affordable” art spaces in the city. The project has been in development for months, but was made “especially important and prescient in light of the recent Oakland warehouse fire tragedy,” according to the press release.
