?uestlove and Carrie Brownstein Discuss Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl on Talkhouse Podcast

For the latest edition of The Talkhouse Music PodcastSleater-Kinney‘s Carrie Brownstein sat down with the Roots‘ ?uestlove. The episode was recorded at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn, at the release party for Brownstein’s memoir Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl. After reading an extract from the book, she invited ?uestlove onstage to discuss their projected audience (“We think of a fan, and in some ways that fan is our younger self”), how to define oneself (“the instinct is to push against“), idol worship (“I remember sitting on my bed and crying to my mom because I wasn’t going to be friends with Madonna … we’re still not friends”), and the similarities between Hunger and ?uestlove’s own book, Mo’ Meta Blues. ?uestlove also has a great anecdote about meeting Prince. Hear it all above.

Update (11/4 10:49 a.m. EST): In other news, Brownstein recieved a special request at the Los Angeles stop on her book tour last night (November 3). During the Q&A part of the event, two fans requested that Brownstein (who is an ordained minister) marry them onstage. She agreed, delivering an impromptu speech; Amy Poehler, who hosted the reading, played the piano. Check out video of the fan wedding below, via Exclaim!.
