Vic Mensa Addresses Justin Timberlake Comments in Radio Freestyle: Watch

Back in June, Vic Mensa called out Justin Timberlake for “benefiting from using black culture for his sound” during an appearance on “The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore.” The comment was in response to some tweets Timberlake sent in regard to Jesse Williams’ speech on racism at this year’s BET Awards. After the “Nightly Show” appearance, Mensa took to Twitter to clarify that his comments “were not to bash” Timberlake, but to shed some light on the “idea of cultural appropriation.” He addressed the comments again during a recent freestyle on BBC Radio 1Xtra for DJ Semtex. Watch it below. “For the record: I ain’t got no problem with Justin Timberlake/That’s the media spin, don’t believe the shit they say,” he raps over Pusha T’s “Numbers on the Boards.” “All I’m saying is you got niggas that love you/So show that love back, ’cause we’re here in the struggle.” He also raps about race and police brutality, as he did on his recent mixtape, There’s Alot Going On
