Watch Dave Chappelle’s “SNL Monologue”: “We’ve Actually Elected an Internet Troll as Our President”

Dave Chappelle was the host of last night’s episode of “Saturday Night Live” with musical guests A Tribe Called Quest. It’s Chappelle’s first time as host. He opened the show with a monologue that addressed Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election, saying, “I didn’t know Donald Trump was going to win the election. I did suspect it. It seemed like Hillary was doing well in the polls, and yet, I know the whites. You guys aren’t as full of surprises as you used to be.” “We’ve actually elected an internet troll as our president,” he said.

Later, he discussed the series of mass shootings that plagued the country this year, the protests that followed the election, the death of Harambe the gorilla, and Black Lives Matter. He also joked that he was staying in a Trump hotel, and took a second to imagine the meeting between President Obama and Trump.

Chappelle concluded his monologue by remembering the Obama presidency, and the relationship African Americans have had with the White House across history. “Obama did a good job. I think we’ll all miss him when he’s gone,” he said. “I’m wishing Donald Trump luck. And I’m going to give him a chance. And we the historically disenfranchised demand that he gives us one too.” Watch Chappelle’s monologue below.
