Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) Shares New Song "Dec 99th – N.A.W.": Listen

Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def) has shared a new track, as Hot New Hip Hop points out. It comes after Bey’s recorded apology, released yesterday, for show cancellations due to his being charged with using a false passport and travel document while attempting to leave South Africa. The new track, “Dec 99th – N.A.W.,” was released via the Soundcloud page A Country Called Earth. Hear it below.

As well as the false passport and travel document charges, Bey was also charged with illegally helping his family stay in the country. Though he’s out on bail, he has been unable to tour internationally.

On March 8, prosecutors asked for a postponement of Bey’s case to finish their investigation. It was rescheduled for March 24, but Bey’s side then requested another postponement. One of his lawyers called the case “complicated but simple at the same time,” given that it involves U.S. and other authorities.

After news came out about his arrest, Bey released a freestyle and message on Kanye West’s website telling his side of the story. Among other things, he announced his retirement from music and said his final album will be released this year.
