Young Fathers Share New Track “Only God Knows” From T2 Trainspotting: Listen

Six songs by the Scottish group Young Fathers appear in T2 Trainspotting—Danny Boyle’s sequel to his cult classic film from 1996. One is the new song “Only God Knows,” and it features the Leith Congregational Choir. Listen to the track below. Boyle heard of Young Fathers after they won the Mercury Prize in 2014. In a statement, the director described the song as “the heartbeat for the film.”

Trainspotting, the original book is like a modern Ulysses. It’s unsurpassed I think, and reading it is still like the ‘rush of ocean to the heart.’ You’re always looking for the heartbeat of a film. For Trainspotting it was Underworld’s ‘Born Slippy.’ For T2 It’s Young Fathers. Their songs are my heartbeat for the film. And ‘Only God Knows’ is that rush again. The ocean. The heart.

The other Young Fathers songs that appear in the film include “Low,” “No Way,” “Dare Me,” “Get Up,” and “Rain or Shine.” The soundtrack also features songs by Underworld, Blondie, Wolf Alice, the Clash, Iggy Pop, and Queen. T2 is out on March 17.
