This past weekend, the first ever Roots Picnic NYC took place at Bryant Park. Day one saw the Roots, D’Angelo, and John Mayer team up to do “Brown Sugar” and “Playa Playa.” Last night, the Roots’ second headline performance featured David Byrne, Wu-Tang Clan, and Nile Rodgers, who all performed with the band’s backing. Below, watch them do “Born Under Punches” with Byrne, various classics with Wu-Tang and Rodgers, and “No One” and “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart” with surprise guest Alicia Keys. As Rodgers played Chic’s “Good Times,” the Sugarhill Gang came out as Rodgers segued into the “Good Times” sample in “Rapper’s Delight.” See that below, too.
