Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig has given an update on the band’s next album. On Instagram, he writes, “every day I get comments & questions about the next Vampire Weekend album. obviously, we gotta take our time & get it right but the fans deserve some information.” He then provides a timeline that begins with the release of their amazing 2013 album Modern Vampires of the City, and includes a year of touring in 2014, a mental health year in 2015, “writing LP4, long days in the library researching w/ the grad students” in 2016, and recording this year. Koenig adds that, in 2015, he “worked on a vibey project you’ll hear abt soon.” Read his full note below.
Vampire Weekend’s fourth album will be the band’s first without Rostam Batmanglij, who announced his departure from the band in January 2016. In his note about Rostam’s departure, Koenig first revealed the next album’s working title, Mitsubishi Macchiato, which he says is still in place “cuz it is a helpful concept.”
Pitchfork named Modern Vampires of the City the No. 1 album of 2013 and the No. 6 record of the decade so far (2010-2014).
