The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band Gets 50th Anniversary Reissue

The Beatles’ discography has resurfaced time and again over the decades. The band’s music took its time getting to the iTunes Store and took even longer to arrive to streaming services. Now, it’s been revealed that the band’s 1967 classic Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band will be reissued for its 50th anniversary. Available in various packages, the newly mixed reissues include previously unreleased studio takes of each song. The super deluxe box set includes another 15 recordings from the Sgt. Pepper sessions—most of them previously unreleased—as well as a 144-page book (with an introduction by Paul McCartney and producer Giles Martin), and more. Paul McCartney said in a press release, “It’s crazy to think that 50 years later we are looking back on this project with such fondness and a little bit of amazement at how four guys, a great producer and his engineers could make such a lasting piece of art.” The anniversary reissue is out May 26 via Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/UMe.

As well as unheard music, the set features a remastered version of The Making of Sgt. Pepper, a documentary unreleased since it was made in 1992. There are also restored promo films for “Strawberry Fields Forever” and “Penny Lane.”
