Weezer's Rivers Cuomo Annotates New Song “I Love the USA”

Yesterday, Weezer shared a new song called “I Love the USA.” The song was recorded as a special request from Apple and NASA to honor NASA’s Juno Mission to Jupiter. Today, Rivers Cuomo annotated the song on Genius. Most of the lyrics got their own strange mini-poem or story. For the titular lyric, he wrote, quite obliquely: “The playground’s closed/They’re painting the playground.” For the lyric “Land of the free, I’m on my way” he wrote: “But we miss the tribe/Hunter gather/Since creation.” And for the chorus of the song (“God save the king”) he shared what looks like a long-winded apology note, comparing himself to Hamlet. You can read all of the annotations here.

This isn’t the first time Rivers has shared eccentric annotations for the band’s songs. He previously annotated “Thank God for Girls” (from 2016′s Weezer) and “Do You Wanna Get High?”.
