Rhymefest Robbed at Gunpoint, Shares Video From Police Station

Rhymefest, born Che Smith, says he was robbed at gunpoint in Chicago yesterday. According to the police report (via The Chicago Tribune), a young man jumped into his parked car, pointed a gun at him, and demanded that he hand over his wallet. “To the young brother that put the gun to my head this morning & took my wallet. You don’t know how you just damaged your community,” Smith says in the below tweets. “It’s 7:30 a.m. You just put a gun in my face for $3 in my wallet. I defend you against police brutality, I work on your behalf, you robbed me.” He goes on to call for the man who robbed him to get in touch, apologize, and talk it out with him. Find the tweets below.

Several hours later, Smith tweeted out a video he took from inside his local police station, where he went to report the robbery. The video appears to show police personnel asking Smith to leave the station before he could properly report the robbery, and was captioned, “You wonder why we don’t report crimes? The police treated me disgustingly.” Find that video below. Since the video was uploaded, Chicago Police Department communications director Anthony Guglielmi has apologized to Smith on Twitter on behalf of the CPD. Smith replied, asking Guglielmi to sit down with him for a conversation about how to “better police our communities.”
