Sannhet: "Revisionist"

Even the most open-minded listeners can only make so much room for instrumental metal in their lives. It’s understandable: the lack of a vocalist can make it difficult to forge an emotional connection if you’re unconcerned with mad skillz, and so many supposed “crossover” acts just sound like heavier versions of Explosions in the Sky. And so here we are talking about Brooklyn’s Sannhet, but I’m at a loss with “Revisionist”. They have a typical power-trio set-up. There’s no high-minded rhetoric explaining their goals. Yes, Sannhet have an incredible light show in a live setting, but you are not at a Sannhet concert right now.

You can picture it, though. Credit goes to drummer Christopher Todd; he’s placed at the front of the stage at shows, and he’s not just gonna sit there keeping time. Maybe your personally-imagined visual accompaniment involves more dry ice and pyro over the jet-streaming guitars. Maybe everything goes dark blue as “Revisionist” arcs towards the heavens and more of a flagrant orange as it burrows into the earth’s core. Or maybe you’re just trying to picture the strobing effects triggered by Todd’s pugilistic fills. Whatever your pleasure, “Revisionist” is transportive, transcendent instru-metal that goes places.
