Young Thug: "Raw (Might Just)"

In a 2011 Grantland interview, the producer Bangladesh discussed his collaborations with Gucci Mane: “He’s not difficult,” Bangladesh said. “He kind of likes anything. He just starts rapping.” Young Thug is adaptive in a different way than Gucci, but Slime Season 2‘s “Raw (Might Just)” is the latest example of his singular sort of utility with the production he favors. Using a beat from Treasure Fingers—Slime Season 2 features works from a number of unheralded producers—Thug slips into every crevice and crack it provides.

“Raw (Might Just)” is a slower piece of music than usual for Thug, but it’s no less powerful than any of his recent highlights; Thug seamlessly adjusts to its tempo. ”I might, I might just take care of bae/ Yeah, I might just make karat my ladies/ On my worse day she a 9 like Brady,” Thug sings over what sounds like Clams Casino doing sound design for a Water Temple in Zelda. Maybe Thug only took 10 minutes to make “Raw (Might Just)”, one of his most soulful and sweet songs this year. If so, it was 10 minutes well spent. Once Thug starts rapping, he kind of embodies anything.
