200-Disc Mozart Box Set Is 2016’s Best-Selling CD Release

Back in August, Decca and Deutsche Grammophon announced a 200-disc box set comprising more than 4,000 Mozart tracks and 240 hours of music—the biggest box set release ever. It’s now become the biggest-selling CD release of 2016, Billboard reports. In the five weeks since its release, the set has generated 1.25 million CD sales, according to Universal Music Group. 

The box set was released by Decca and Deutsche Grammophon in partnership with the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation and Mozart scholar Cliff Eisen, who also wrote a new biography included in the release.
