A$AP Rocky, Nas, Jennifer Hudson to Star in New Film Monster

A$AP Rocky and Nas have been cast in a new movie called Monster, according to The Hollywood Reporter. They’ll star alongside Jennifer Hudson, Kelvin Harrison Jr. (“Roots”), Jeffrey Wright (BasquiatThe Hunger Games), and more. In addition, Nas and John Legend will executive produce, and also have a hand in the movie’s music.

Monster is about a 17-year-old high school student in Harlem named Steve Harrison, who gets charged with murder but says he did not commit the crime, according to THR. It’s the first feature film from director Anthony Mandler. Mandler has an extensive résumé as a music video director. He’s directed videos for Beyoncé (“Irreplaceable,” “Get Me Bodied”), Taylor Swift (“22,” “I Knew You Were Trouble”), Lana Del Rey, the Weeknd, Eminem, Maxwell, and many others. He’s also worked extensively with Rihanna, directing videos including “Diamonds” and “Disturbia.” Recently, Mandler co-directed Drake’s new short film Please Forgive Me (with Drake).

Previously, A$AP Rocky has acted in Zoolander 2 and Dope. He also voiced a bodega cat on HBO’s “Animals.” Nas’ most notable acting role came back in 1998 with the film Belly. Other acting gigs include a cameo on the show “Hawaii Five-0.” He is among the executive producers of Baz Luhrmann’s new Netflix TV series “The Get Down.”
