Action Bronson Removed From Another College Concert

Action Bronson has been removed from another college concert, just a few weeks after being taken off the bill for George Washington University’s Spring Fling. He was scheduled to perform at Trinity College’s Spring Weekend on April 30, but has been canceled following student outcry. A statement from the president, vice president, and executive board of Trinity’s Barnyard Entertainment (the branch of student government that provides entertainment and activities for students) said, “As both students and student leaders, we fully agree that it is not only certain songs by Action Bronson that go against the school’s mission. The very act of bringing him to this campus runs counter to the College’s obligation to protect the emotional and physical safety of its students.” The statement acknowledged a student petition, “Remove Action Bronson from Trinity College’s Spring Weekend Concert,” as an “important factor” in their decision.

The statement explained that Bronson was selected to play in November, and they actually wanted to remove him at the end of March, following the GW decision, “because of his lyrics, music, videos, and the misogyny, homophobia, and transphobia that they promote.” Nevertheless, his contract was difficult to break, so they added “a legal addendum, which would forbid Action Bronson from performing any songs that went against the College’s mission.” Following the outcry, however, they decided to remove Bronson, whom they call “an explicitly unconscious rapper.” In the statement, they apologize for booking Bronson in the first place and also express their pride in the student body for speaking out.
