Adele to Headline Glastonbury 2016

This year’s Glastonbury Festival takes place in Pilton, England, from June 22-26. Today, Adele has announced that she will headline the festival’s Saturday night, NME reports. During her set at London’s O2 Arena, she said, “I wanted to do it last year but my record wasn’t ready. And to the people who say I am too boring to headline, you’re more fucking boring for moaning about me headlining.” Update (3/18, 6:25 p.m.): Glastonbury have confirmed on Twitter that Adele will headline.

Her comments are in stark contrast to past apprehension about playing Glastonbury. Last October, she said, “The crowds are too big – I don’t know if I could do it.” She even watched Kanye West’s 2015 headlining set and decided it wasn’t for her: “I went this year to watch Kanye [West] and I literally just crapped my pants on the size of the audience. It was pretty insane.”

In addition to Adele, Muse and Coldplay will headline on Friday and Sunday, respectively. The full lineup has not been announced, but sets from PJ Harvey and Jeff Lynne’s ELO have been confirmed. The festival will also screen David Bowie’s headline set from 2000 in full.

Glastonbury has urged British attendees to apply for postal votes in advance of the EU referendum, which clashes with the festival.
