Arcade Fire Announce New Album Everything Now
A new Arcade Fire album is on the way. Everything Now, the follow-up to 2013’s Reflektor, is out July 28 via Columbia. The record includes the new song “Everything Now,” which they sold as a 12” vinyl single at Primavera Sound. The track is produced by Arcade Fire, Steve Mackey (of Pulp), and Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk. In the buildup to the album, there was a flurry of cryptic developments: They tweeted “Stay tuned for Infinite Content” (which turned out to be the title of their tour), their site redirected to a mysterious pseudo-livestream, and a Twitter account designed to look like a Russian spambot appeared to leak information. Arcade Fire recorded Everything Now in New Orleans, Montreal, and Paris. It’s produced by Arcade Fire, Mackey, and Bangalter, with co-production by Markus Dravs. According to an interview Win Butler did with Zane Lowe, the album also features contributions from Geoff Barrow of Portishead. In addition to the digital edition, it’s available on CD, cassette, and vinyl, which features 20 artwork variants with the title in one of 20 different languages. According to a press release, “The new album is Arcade Fire’s first release under its new partnership with the global media and e-commerce platform Everything Now in synergy with the Sony Corporation.” (The band is now signed to Columbia.)
Earlier today, Win Butler discussed the inspiration behind the song with MistaJam on BBC Radio 1. “There’s sort of an everything-nowness to life. I feel like almost every event and everything that happens surrounds you on all sides,” he says, “It’s trying to capture some of the experiences of being alive now in all its flaws and all its glory.” Listen to the full interview below.
Earlier this year, Arcade Fire released the Mavis Staples-featuring track “I Give You Power,” benefitting the ACLU. More recently, the band debuted six new songs at a tiny Montreal show. This summer, they will embark on a tour of Europe largely comprising festival dates; as of now, there’s no news of a North American tour.
