Back in November, Bad Brains guitarist Dr. Know, aka Gary Miller, was hospitalized for cardiac arrest, which gave way to multiple organ failure. After being on life support for two weeks and spending almost three months in the hospital, he is expected to make a full recovery. (Doctors originally stated that Miller had a 5% chance of pulling through.) In the wake of the tumult, Bad Brains manager Vaughan Lewis has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for Miller’s medical and living expenses. In the description, he explains that the guitarist did not have health insurance during the emergency, and that the steep medical bills have put “an overwhelming financial strain” on the musician and his family. He concludes, “Dr. Know sincerely thanks all of you for the continued support and truly believes that all of your love and PMA [Positive Mental Attitude] has allowed him to recover so quickly, against all odds.” Check here to chip in.

The band also shared a statement on their Facebook:

As many of you know, Gary Miller (aka Dr. Know or Doc), guitarist of the Legendary Washington DC punk band Bad Brains, suffered cardiac arrest in early November last year. His condition quickly progressed to multiple organ failure, and he was on life support for almost 2 weeks. At the time, his doctors gave him a 5% chance of survival. But by the power of PMA, LOVE and FAMILY, he was able to pull through and survive.

We started this campaign in an effort to raise money for Doc’s medical expenses and additional care that will be needed once he returns home.
