Beyoncé and Solange Talk Family, Producing, Womanhood, More in New Interview

Solange is on the cover of the latest issue of Interview Magazine, with an interview conducted by her older sister Beyoncé. After Solange teased the cover on her Instagram, the full interview has surfaced online. The Knowles sisters discuss their upbringing, Solange’s decision to have their parents featured on A Seat at the Table, the making of the album, and more. “I just feel so much joy and gratitude that people have connected to it in this way,” Solange says about the album. “The biggest reward that I could ever get is seeing women, especially black women, talk about what this album has done, the solace it has given them.”

At one point in the interview, Solange expresses to Beyoncé her admiration of Missy Elliott as a producer (“I remember seeing her when you guys worked together and being enamored with the idea that I could use myself as more than a voice and the words”). She also talks about the misconceptions about being a “strong woman,” the meaning behind “Cranes in the Sky,” and the making of her music videos with director/husband, Alan Ferguson.
