Big Star's Jody Stephens Starts New Band Those Pretty Wrongs, Shares "Lucky Guy"

Jody Stephens is Big Star‘s original drummer—the sole surviving founding member of the band. This summer, he’s releasing a 7″ with his new band Those Pretty Wrongs. It’s a duo featuring Stephens and Luther Russell (of the Freewheelers). “Lucky Guy” b/w “Fool of Myself” is out June 2 via Burger. Listen to the A-side above.

The project started when Stephens was asked to perform Big Star songs to support screenings of the documentary Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me. He asked Russell to join him on guitar, and subsequently, they started writing songs together. They named their band after a Shakespeare sonnet

Stephens and Russell recorded the two songs at Ardent Studios in Memphis. According to Burger, the duo recorded with the late Chris Bell’s guitars—the same ones that were used to record #1 Record and I Am the Cosmos—and Stephens’ Radio City/Third kit.
