Bono Tells U.S. Senate to Send Amy Schumer, Sacha Baron Cohen, Chris Rock After ISIS

Today, Bono visited Congress to attend a Senate subcommittee hearing on “causes and consequences of violent extremism and the role of foreign assistance.” He was there alongside diplomats and aid experts asking the United States government to provide aid to the Middle East. “It could be the best bulwark we have against violent extremism,” he said. While he was there, he also suggested another way to combat extremists like ISIS and Boko Haram: comedy. “Don’t laugh,” he said as he introduced his idea, adding, “I think comedy should be deployed.” He elaborated:

“The first people that Adolf Hitler threw out of Germany were the dadaists and surrealists. It’s like, you speak violence, you speak their language. But you laugh at them when they are goose-stepping down the street and it takes away their power. So I am suggesting that the Senate send in Amy Schumer and Chris Rock and Sacha Baron Cohen, thank you.”

Schumer responded:
