Brian Eno Encourages UK Citizens to Vote Against Brexit

On June 23, citizens of the United Kingdom will vote, deciding whether the UK should exit the European Union. The “Brexit” issue is a contentious one, and several UK musicians have been very vocal about their desire to remain in the EU. Earlier this week Johnny Marr compared the Pro-Brexit campaign to fascism. Today, Brian Eno shared a long note on his Facebook urging UK citizens to vote against Brexit. In his note, he admits at first being “complacent about the issue,” but in light of alarming poll results and the increasing possibility of an actual exit, he thought it “might be time to rethink” his previous inaction. He discusses the merits of the EU as a regulator of environmental concerns, gun control, fair labor practices, and more. Eno finishes his note, writing  that he thinks the “only good outcome of this referendum is that it might remind us what the original mission of the EU was, and might motivate us to actually make it happen.” Eno has been a vocal critic of international politics in the past, writing essays criticizing the treatment of Palestinians. You can read the entirety of his note below.
