Can Members Reunite For 50-Year Anniversary Show

Members of Can will reunite as “The Can Project” at a special concert at Barbican Hall in London in April. Founding member Irmin Schmidt will be joined by the band’s first singer, Malcolm Mooney and founding drummer Jaki Liebezeit, as well as the London Symphony Orchestra, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore and Steve Shelley, and more. For the first part of the concert, Schmidt will conduct the LSO and premiere two orchestral works: “An Homage to Can,” a piece co-written with Gregor Schwellenbach that contains “quotations” of well-known Can songs, and the concert version of his ballet La Fermosa. The second part of the concert will feature a supergroup that includes Liebezeit, Moore, and Shelley, with special guests to be announced. The show takes place April 8; tickets can be found here.
