On Wednesday evening, a Minnesota police officer shot and killed Philando Castile, a 32-year old black man, during a traffic stop. Castile was shot as he reached for his wallet. His girlfriend, Lavish Reynolds, was in the car, along with Reynolds’ daughter. The aftermath of the incident was captured on camera by Reynolds, and the video has spread through the news. Castile’s death follows the killing of Alton Sterling, a black man who was shot by police outside a convenience store in Baton Rouge. Video of that shooting was captured by a bystander, and has also spread through the news. Over the last day, artists such as Chance the Rapper, Drake, Questlove, Blood Orange, Killer Mike, Shamir, the Game, John Legend, and more have offered their thoughts on the shootings.
These guys murdered this man with his 4 year old daughter in the backseat? Is there any situation where police get arrested? Or convicted?

If you’re a Judge, or a politician or a fellow officer with a Conscience, what does it tell you to do? As a human being what do you feel?

As a man, you can always do/say something. https://t.co/5mcfXCLSG4

🤔 1) Africa isn’t a country 2) I’m an American citizen 3) My ancestors built this country and I’m restructuring it. https://t.co/yXjMhEoZ2T

.@NRA we know that NOONE fights so hard for “the right to legally bear arms” more than you do. That said… #PhilandoCastile? Anyone?

Haven’t brought myself to watch #philandocastile shooting. Not sure I can stomach it RN. Tired. Not surprised. Numb. Angry. But I must.

We should not have to jump through hoops to prove black people shouldn’t be shot by police during routine traffic stops.
— John Legend (@johnlegend) July 7, 2016
We have fucking video proof and some of you still are all “well, uh, he shouldn’t have moved his left leg so provocatively”.
— John Legend (@johnlegend) July 7, 2016
So many people work so hard to find a reason why executing a human being during a routine traffic stop is ok. IT’S NOT OK
— John Legend (@johnlegend) July 7, 2016
we get that our lives don’t matter to but can you at the very least stop killing us so we can continue to create the things u appropriate
— Shamir (@ShamirBailey) July 7, 2016
Like i never like to touch on this cuz i hate negativity but im tired of seeing my people being drained of our culture then killed
— Shamir (@ShamirBailey) July 7, 2016
Cultural appropriation and systematic racism goes hand & hand, end that then you can have ur cornrows https://t.co/Z1ljVdRkHs
— Shamir (@ShamirBailey) July 7, 2016
lynchings were public to keep a class system based on race intact in the Jim Crow south. Public Executions by Police 2day do the same.
