Earlier this month, Kanye West shouted out Chance the Rapper at Ottawa Bluesfest, cuing Chance to share an emotional video capturing his reaction. At the same performance, Kanye hinted that the pair are working on a collaboration, a claim Chance later elaborated in an interview. Now, in a new interview with the Guardian, Chance has revealed one Kanye team-up that didn’t quite come off: Until the last minute, ‘Ye had been set to narrate Surf, the album by Chance’s group Donnie Trumpet and the Social Experiment.

“Yah, he was going to narrate it at one point,” Chance told the Guardian. “In the final weeks of getting ready to put it out we had vocal chops that we were using from ’Ye talking about some of the themes of the project. Through just thinking about it, it didn’t end up happening that way. Not to say it wouldn’t have been dope as shit!”

In the same interview, Chance admits he once wanted “Kanye to be my dad.” Read it in full here.
