Today, Boston mayor Marty Walsh issued a proclamation designating tomorrow, October 10, as Patti Smith Day. “I urge my fellow Bostonians to join me in celebrating her enormous artistic contribution to the world,” he wrote, along with a list of Smith’s accomplishments. Read the proclamation below.

Smith’s new memoir, M Train, is out now.
Previously, Walsh declared April 9 to be “Riot Grrrl Day” in honor of Kathleen Hanna.
