Sufjan Stevens performed in Indio last night at the annual Coachella Music & Arts Festival. The performance comes just days after the singer-songwriter announced additional summer tour dates in support of his latest album Carrie & Lowell. There’s one thing he certainly won’t be bringing on that tour—the banjo he was playing during his opening performance of “Seven Swans.” As soon as the song was over, he destroyed the instrument. Watch footage of the neon-clad Stevens performing “Vesuvius” (from The Age of Adz). Also find a clip of his performance of “Chicago” (from his recently reissued 2005 album Illinois), during which he was covered in streamers and balloons, below.
Read last year’s interview with Stevens about Carrie & Lowell, as well as our conversation with his step-father, Asthmatic Kitty co-founder and album namesake Lowell Brams.
