Danish Brewery Makes “Pisner” Beer Using Music Festival Urine

A Danish brewery has collected 50,000 liters of human urine from Roskilde festival to help produce its latest beer, Reuters reports. In a move Denmark’s Agriculture and Food Council has approvingly dubbed “beercycling,” brewer Norrebro Bryghus will create the beer in fields of malting barley fertilized with human urine, instead of manure or manufactured nutrients. The brew has been dubbed “Pisner,” punning on the Danes’ single-“s” spelling of “piss.” Speaking to Reuters, Roskilde-goer and Pisner enthusiast Anders Sjögren said, “If it had tasted even a bit like urine, I would put it down, but you don’t even notice.” The festival says they have enough urine to brew 60,000 bottles, so there’s plenty to go around. See a behind-the-scenes video below, via IBTimes.
