One of Dave Chappelle’s most famous “Chappelle’s Show” sketches was the installment of “Charlie Murphy’s True Hollywood Stories” about Prince. Prince seemingly enjoyed the sketch, putting Chappelle on the cover of his recent single “Breakfast Can Wait.” During Chappelle’s recent performance at the Chapel in San Francisco on Thursday night, he mourned the late singer on stage, The San Francisco Chronicle reports (via CoS). “This is black 9/11,” he told the audience. “I almost thought about not coming tonight, but my band was like, ‘Yo, Prince would definitely not condone that.” Throughout the show, the house band played Prince’s hits, and Chappelle reportedly played a tambourine with the Prince symbol on it.
Prince was found dead at his Paisley Park estate in Chanhassen, Minnesota on Thursday. He was 57. Support has poured out from across the musical community.
