Dave Chappelle Has Netflix’s Most Viewed Comedy Specials Ever

Dave Chappelle’s two new Netflix stand-up specials, Deep in the Heart of Texas and The Age of Spin, marked the comedian’s return in a big way. Although he had been touring since walking away from “Chappelle’s Show” in 2006, he hadn’t released a new special since 2004’s For What It’s Worth. That wait appears to have paid off in a big way. Netflix announced to its shareholders in a first quarter report that Chappelle’s specials were their most viewed comedy specials ever, Entertainment Weekly reports.

Chappelle reportedly received a $60 million payout from Netflix for three specials in total—the two he already released and a forthcoming third. The specials featured his impressions of Lil Wayne and Drake. In the weeks leading up to his Netflix debut, he appeared at a Chance the Rapper event in Chicago, and joined Thundercat and Robert Glasper on stage in New York. Watch him pay tribute to the late “Chappelle’s Show” star Charlie Murphy here.
