David Byrne Working on New Music With Brian Eno, Oneohtrix Point Never

On Thursday, David Byrne participated in a Reddit AMA where he offered information about his next record. “Brian [Eno] helped me a LOT on a record I’m finishing up now,” he said, later adding that he plans to put out an LP “early next year.” In addition, Byrne revealed, “last week I wrote words and a melody over a track that Daniel Lopatin [aka Oneohtrix Point Never] sent me.” A representative for Byrne confirmed to Pitchfork that “an album is in progress,” and a representative for Lopatin confirmed that the two are working together.

Elsewhere in his AMA, Byrne discussed some of the music he’s been listening to lately. He mentioned Dirty Projectors, Ryuichi Sakamoto (particularly his new record async), Bon Iver, Lambchop, the Weeknd, Lorde, PJ Harvey, Sampha, and Sinkane. Plus, he reaffirmed his love for St. Vincent, with whom he made 2012’s Love This Giant (“Annie’s amazing!”).

David Byrne and Brian Eno have a rich collaborative history. Eno produced multiple Talking Heads records, including Remain in Light. Eno and Byrne also collaborated on 2008’s Everything That Happens Will Happen Today and 1981’s My Life in the Bush of Ghosts.
