David Cross Donating Album Proceeds to ACLU

Following Donald Trump’s election, artists and labels across the music world have donated their music to support worthy causes. David Cross has now joined the cause. The “Arrested Development” actor/comedian announced that he will donate the full proceeds from his new stand-up album …America…Great… (modified from the tour title, Making America Great Again!) to the American Civil Liberties Union. The album is available on CD for $10; an autographed version is available for $25. Cross is also planning to match all of those donations himself. In a note on his website, Cross wrote:

I really believe in America and thus, believe that we can get through this. But it’s going to be a nasty next few years to say the least. And we have to look out for each other–particularly those who can’t look out for themselves or who are at the highest risk for the kinds of awfulness we’ve gotten just a small taste of so far these past couple of weeks.

Read the full note here. Below, see more examples of artists and labels who are donating to organizations and causes.

This week, Bon Iver are offering 10 percent off of everything in their online store (like the 22, A Million flannel shirt). All of the net proceeds will go to the Southern Poverty Law Center and Standing Rock.

The electronic producer Eprom has decided to donate all of his 2017 Bandcamp proceeds to Planned Parenthood. In just a few weeks, he’s raised over $1,000.

Call Super, aka Ondo Fudd, is donating all Bandcamp proceeds to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Topshelf Records announced that proceeds for all pre-orders will go to Planned Parenthood, NAACP LDF, and the Trevor Project. The label has also begun a tiered label subscription, which will include ways to donate purchases to any of those organizations.

The day after the election, Wolf Eyes made their discography “pay-what-you-want” on Bandcamp, and donated the proceeds.

If you’d like for the money you spend on albums and shows to go toward causes that stand in opposition of President-elect Trump’s policies, find more examples here.
