Dirty Beaches Talks Travels, Leather Jackets in New Episode of Pitchfork.tv's "Entrevista"

Alex Zhang Hungtai, best known for his music as Dirty Beaches (though he doesn’t go by that moniker anymore), is featured in the latest episode of Pitchfork.tv and Canal 180‘s “Entrevista” series. “Entrevista” means “interview” in Portuguese, and this show features behind-the-scenes chats with artists. Watch the episode below.

Zhang discussed his recording process, his global travels, and the symbolism of leather jackets. “When you see a young guy that’s wearing a motorcycle leather jacket, it doesn’t look cool because a) he doesn’t ride a motorcycle, b) there’s no meaning behind it,” he said, explaining the nuances of one of his beloved symbols. “But if you see an old guy with a beard and looks really fucked up, and he’s wearing a leather jacket, why does that look cool? Because there’s history. There’s stories in his face and it’s the man that makes the jacket look cool – not the jacket that makes the man cool.”

Previous episodes of “Entrevista” featured the NationalChvrchesSlintMogwaiPond, and Mac Demarco
