Donald Glover Cast as Simba in The Lion King Remake

Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) has been cast as Simba in Disney’s remake of The Lion King, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Elf), who directed The Jungle Book remake last year, will direct the live-action adaptation. James Earl Jones will reprise his role as Mufasa. The original animated version of The Lion King was released in 1994.

This casting is the latest in a slew of new roles for Glover. He is currently starring in the Golden Globe-winning FX series “Atlanta,” which he created and co-writes. (He won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a TV Series or Musical for playing Earnest “Earn” Marks in the show.) The series has already been renewed by FX for a 10-episode second season. In October, Glover was cast as a young Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Han Solo movie. The still untitled Han Solo movie is set to be released in 2018. Last year, Glover released a new album as Childish Gambino called “Awaken, My Love.”
