Drake, Kanye, Kendrick, Chance, More Nominated for 2016 BET Hip Hop Awards

BET has announced the nominees for its annual Hip Hop Awards. Drake leads all artists with 14 nominations. He’s up for Best Hip Hop Video (“Hotline Bling”), Track of the Year, (“Hotline Bling” and “Controlla”), Album of the Year (VIEWS), Best Live Performer, MVP of the Year, Hustler of the Year, and more. Other notable nominees include Kanye West, who got eight nods, including Best Hip Hop Video and Video Director of the Year for “Famous,” Album of the Year (The Life of Pablo), Made-You-Look Award (Best Hip-Hop Style), and more. Kendrick Lamar received four nominations, including Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse for his turn on Beyoncé’s Lemonade cut “Freedom.” Chance the Rapper got four nominations, as well, including one for Best Mixtape for Coloring Book. Drake, Kanye, Kendrick, and Chance were all nominated for Lyricist of the Year, as was J. Cole.

After Drake, Future and DJ Khaled received the most nominations. Future got 10; Khaled got nine. Among those were nods for Album of the Year for DS2 and I Changed a Lot, respectively. The records go against VIEWSTLOP, Fetty Wap’s self-titled, and Dr. Dre’s Compton in the category. See the full list of nominees here.

The 2016 BET Hip Hop Awards will be taped on September 17 at Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. The show airs on BET on Tuesday, October 4 at 8 p.m. Eastern.
