Earlier this week, Eagles of Death Metal‘s Jesse Hughes appeared on Fox Business Network to discuss the November 13 Paris attacks at Le Bataclan. During the interview, he suggested some security staff did not show up to the concert because he believed they were somewhat involved with the terrorist attacks. He said, “It seems rather obvious they had a reason not to show up.” Bataclan owners condemned Hughes’ statements, calling them “insane.” Through a rep, they added, “Jesse Hughes spread some very grave and defamatory accusations against the Bataclan teams.” Tonight, Hughes has officially apologized for his “absurd accusations.” In a statement, he accepts full responsibility for his comments, calling them “unfounded and baseless,” but explains, “I’ve been dealing with non-stop nightmares and struggling through therapy to make sense of this tragedy and insanity.” Find his entire statement below.

Hughes’ original remarks came when he was asked, “Was there anything about that night that was strange or off?” He responded:

When I first got to the venue and walked in, I walked past the dude who was supposed to be the security guard for the backstage. He didn’t even look at me. I immediately went to the promoter and said, “Who’s that guy? I want to put another dude on.” He said, “Well, some of the other guards aren’t here yet.” And eventually, I found out that six or so wouldn’t show up at all.

In addition to calling Hughes’ comments “insane,” Le Bataclan owners responded:

A judicial investigation is undergoing. We wish to let justice proceed serenely. All the testimonies gathered to this day demonstrate the professionalism and courage of the security agents who were on the ground on November 13. Hundreds of people were saved thanks to (these agents’) intervention.

Last month in an interview with French TV channel iTélé, Hughes reaffirmed his opposition to gun control with regard to the Paris attacks. He said:

Did your French gun control stop a single fucking person from dying at the Bataclan? If anyone can answer yes, I’d like to hear it. Because I don’t think so. I think the only thing that stopped it was some of the bravest men that I’ve ever seen in my life, charging headfirst into the face of death, with their firearms. I know people will disagree with me, but it seems like God made men and women and that night guns made them equal.

In February, EoDM began their rescheduled European tour, but had to cancel once again because Hughes tore a tendon in his finger.
