Electronic Music Artist Susumu Yokota Has Died

Japanese electronic music artist Susumu Yokota has died, according to his longtime label Lo Recordings. He was 54 years old.

Yokota passed away on March 27 after “a long period of medical treatment.” Fans of Yokota’s can send their condolences to yokota4ever@gmail.com.

Yokota released more than 30 albums throughout his career, ranging across a variety of electronic music styles. He recorded under several pseudonyms, such as Ringo, Stevia, Prism, Ebi, and Sonicstuff, and also worked as a house music producer. His most recent release was 2012′s Dreamer.

A note on Lo’s website reads:

Yokota’s music was always completely individual, always esoteric yet never wilfully indulgent. His touch was that of a master craftsman, creating intricate musical jewels that sparkled like no others. There’s no doubt that if he had been in a position to play live concerts his reputation would far exceed many of his contemporaries. He will be sorely missed by those who value quality and originality in music.
