Ex Hex's "Waterfall" Video Stars Various Punk Luminaries

Ex Hex, the power pop trio fronted by Mary Timony (Helium, Wild Flag, Autoclave), released its excellent self-titled debut last week on Merge. Today they’ve shared a video for “Waterfall”, which animates some live footage of the group. Watch below.

The clip was directed by New York-based cartoonist M. Wartella, who described the video in a press release: “It’s basically Rock & Roll Space Vixens invade Washington, DC. I wanted to give the awesome ladies of Ex Hex the Ed Wood treatment and create something like a Russ Meyer or Corman film: Fast, Cheap & Out of Control.”

Along with members of Ex Hex, the video features punk figures like Michelle Mae (the Make-Up, Weird War), Francy Z. Graham (Chain and the Gang), Kid Congo Powers (Nick Cave, the Cramps, the Gun Club), and Alec MacKaye (Ignition, the Faith, the Warmers). MacKaye is wearing the same jacket he wore on the cover of Minor Threat’s 8-song EP and on the cover of Dischord’s first release, the Teen Idles 7″.
