Ex-Pearl Jam Drummer: I Was Never Invited to Rock Hall, It Was a “Slap in the Face”
Pearl Jam were recently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In addition to their current lineup, original drummer Dave Krusen was recognized by the Hall. Another ex-drummer, Dave Abbruzzese, was not. Abbruzzese first addressed the Rock Hall’s snub in a Facebook post last fall. In March, months after the band’s induction was announced, Pearl Jam said they extended an invitation to the ceremony to Abbruzzese (and all their other ex-drummers). Now, in a new Facebook post, Abbruzzese writes, “the band and the Hall did not invite or contact me,” as Alternative Nation points out. He also called it “a slap in the face” when the band “put [him] in the same light” as the drummers who came before him—Krusen and Matt Chamberlain. He closed the note, “I have to clarify that I mean no disrespect at all to Pearl Jam, it’s [sic] management or anyone who has ever been or currently is a member of the organization.” Read the full thing below.
During their performance at the 2017 ceremony, Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament wore a shirt that listed many great acts who have not been inducted into the Hall. Notably, Nirvana’s original drummer Chad Channing, who was not acknowledged by the Hall in 2014, made it on the shirt. Neither Abbruzzese, Chamberlain, nor Jack Irons (another ex-drummer who didn’t make the Hall) was listed on Ament’s shirt.
