Explore Abbey Road Studios With Google Interactive Tour

Google has teamed up with Abbey Road Studios to present Inside Abbey Road, an interactive digital feature that allows one to navigate the London studio, which was made famous by the Beatles, Pink Floyd, and countless others. The tour offers dozens of activities, such as mixing a track and watching artists like Paul McCartney and Oasis record. (You can also just walk around, too.) You can check it out here, and watch a short trailer for the project below.

Inside Abbey Road features guided tours with producers and engineers, a 360-degree video of a London Symphony Orchestra recording session, and plenty of historical background. There’s also an interactive version of the machine the Beatles used to record Sgt. Pepper’s. In addition, the site features embedded videos of previously existing material, such as a discussion between Jay Z and Zane Lowe about 2013′s Magna Carta Holy Grail (which was held at the studio) and the video for Kate Bush’s “Sat In Your Lap” (which was shot inside the studio).

Abbey Road opened as a studio in 1931, with a recording by the London Symphony Orchestra. In 1962, the Beatles auditioned for George Martin, who would become their signature producer, at the studio. Eventually, they recorded the majority of their music at the studio, beginning with 1963′s Please Please Me and ending with 1969′s Abbey Road.

In 2010, parent company EMI considered selling the studio before pulling it off the market. EMI was subsequently purchased by Universal, who then assumed ownership of the studio.
