Father John Misty Announces New Album Pure Comedy, Shares Short Film: Watch
After sharing a new song and video yesterday, Father John Misty has now announced his third studio album. Pure Comedy is out April 7 via Sub Pop (except in Europe, where it’s out via Bella Union). The 75-minute album was co-produced by Josh Tillman and Jonathan Wilson and marks Tillman’s first full-length record since 2015’s I Love You, Honeybear. Find the full tracklist and album artwork below. He’s also released Pure Comedy: The Film—a 25-minute documentary about the making of the album. The film, directed by Tillman and Grant James, features Tillman playing new songs in the studio, painting shirtless, and driving around a burning L.A. Watch it below.
Composer Gavin Bryars contributed strings, horns, and choral arrangements to Pure Comedy. Nico Muhly and Thomas Bartlett also worked on the album.
The album cover was illustrated by Ed Steed (The New Yorker) and is available in four different variants. The deluxe edition of the LP comes on “aluminum and copper” colored vinyl and features all four variants of the cover in a customizable jacket, along with a fold-out poster and holographic tarot card.
