FKA Twigs Creating New Short Films in Front of Audience

FKA twigs has announced a seven-day residency at Manchester’s Old Granada Studios, as part of the Manchester International Festival, as the BBC points out. During the residency, she’ll create seven short films; audience members will watch the process take place in small groups, much like PJ Harvey’s recent “Recording in Progress”. The festival takes place July 2-19; Twigs’ residency runs from July 9-15.

Twigs joins several musicians and artists who are participating in the Manchester International Festival. As previously reported, Damon Albarn will debut his Wonder.land musical, which is inspired by Alice in Wonderland. Jamie xx will score a ballet based on Jonathan Safron Foer’s Tree of Codes.

Antony and Nico Muhly have also contributed music to the festival’s production of The Skriker, a revival of Caryl Churchill’s 1994 play about two sisters who are pursued by a malevolent, shape-shifting fairy. The revival was specifically commissioned for the festival.

Additionally, Björk will perform at the Castlefield Arena. Her Vulnicura collaborator Arca will also take part in the fest, performing with Jesse Kanda at Hallé St. Peter’s.
