FKA twigs Responds to Racist Twitter Abuse

On Sunday, FKA twigs (aka Tahliah Barnett) lashed out against the racist abuse that’s been recently directed toward her on Twitter and other social media platforms. “I am genuinely shocked and disgusted at the amount of racism that has been infecting my account the past week,” she wrote. “Racism is unacceptable in the real world and it’s unacceptable online.”

Racism is unacceptable in the real world and it’s unacceptable online.

Her label, Young Turks, also asked fans to report the abuse on Twitter:

The racist abuse @FKAtwigs is getting on her social networks is despicable and depressingly archaic.

Up to all of us to help educate the abusive parties on how hateful their views are and that social media actually links back to real people

In the meantime we can all report, block, and ban the abusive parties from social networks. Love all at YT.

Some background here: According to the tabloids, Barnett is dating actor Robert Pattinson. Pattinson starred in the Twilight movies, where he met and began dating co-star Kristen Stewart, who portrayed his on-screen significant other.

Pattinson and Stewart eventually broke up, but there are rabid Twilight fans who’ve refused to accept the split and have subsequently directed their ire at Barnett for getting in the way of the supposedly inevitable reconciliation. It’s immensely stupid, but no one ever accused rabid Twilight fans of common sense.
